Shortly after WWII, the town of Most became the home of many motor races that took place on temporary road courses. That is why there appeared to be a need to build a modern circuit, satisfying parameters for organising international competitions. The construction of the Autodrom motor racing circuit in Most started in 1978 in the area of the former opencast Vrbenský mine and it finished in 1983. The circuit is 4,219 m long and has 21 curves. The Hipodrom Most ranks among the most modern of the horse race-courses in Europe. It is unique since it was built on the former spoil bank area and it belongs among four race-courses given the grade "A". Nowadays there are facilities for 1,500 visitors, a tower for referees, a turf club, a show-jumping race and a children´s playground. This is the one and only race-course in the Czech Republic with a straight racing course for flat races of lengths up to 1,200 m. The Hipodrom organises races and show jumping that attract about 100,000 visitors every year.
