The German version of the Czech castle´s name Rýzmburk (Riesenburg) implies that this is the most monumental castle in the area of the Krušné hory Mountains, and according to some sources only Prague Castle was larger. Its creation was started around 1240, and was built by the same family that built Hněvín in Most. Nowadays, only the residential towers with a square ground plan and the castle palace have been preserved. Unfortunately, in the last few years the castle has been closed to the public because of its disturbed statics and falling stones. In 2010 a Civic Association for Preservation of the Castle Rýzmburk was established and now it is reconstructing and preserving the castle step by step in co-operation with conservationists and voluntary workers.
