St Archangel Michael church
For more information
The church of St. Michael Archangel is the oldest historical monument in Litvínov. It is a listed building. It was built in the years between 1685-1694 in the early Baroque style and thanks to the Prague archbishop named Jan Bedřich z Valdštejna. The church is a single-aisle building with three floors; its layout creates a Latin cross. Between the aisle and the chancel there is a so-called triumphal arch. In the front there are two relatively low pyramidal towers that exceed a little the gable of the church. Between the towers there is a sandstone sculpture of the patron of the church - Saint Michael Archangel with a sword and pair of scales. In front of the church there is a wide staircase, typical for Baroque edifices.
